And organizations everywhere were forced into a mandatory reality of virtual meetings and telework. With no clear end in sight and travel restrictions and public safety concerns in mind, organizations were looking for ways to translate their in-person gatherings into effective remote events.

The Alliance works globally to create and evolve universal open standards to deliver on the promise of a connected world. Instrumental to these efforts are annual in-person strategy meetings that bring industry leaders together to discuss, share, explore, and generate plans that will promote visionary change and progress across the industry. In order to do this effectively in a new remote context, The Alliance looked to secure support from an experienced virtual facilitation partner.

Leveraging design thinking workshop experience and techniques…

IXP designed a unique event to clarify strategic priorities, areas of focus, and activities that would drive the Alliance’s vision while ensuring an engaging and rewarding experience for  participating leaders.

To deliver a successful, productive, multi-day remote event, we focused on: 1) Event Communication + Coordination Support, 2) Pre-event planning , 3) During-event execution, and 4) Post-event reporting.

Pre-event planning included defining agenda, flow, and activities, staff prep (co-facilitators, tech support, comms support, etc.), conducting multiple Dry Runs to mitigate potential issues, tool stack setup, and material design and production (Mural boards, agenda, music, presentations, etc.). During the event we facilitated activities, including live synthesis of data, note-taking, and content consolidation. To close out the engagement post-event, we provided a final report and progress tracking dashboard.

Over the course of the engagement, we held multiple working sessions, reviews, and practices to ensure a meaningful experience for participants and worked closely with the client to tailor activities and to integrate feedback.

The result was packaged priorities and actionable milestones vetted by all participants and ready to present for board approval. Additionally, raw, summarized data and fully documented proceedings, validated contribution to and support for decisions.
